Hello All,
I’ve been busy this week organising my artwork and finally getting everything catalogued properly. My studio is absolutely packed — there are even pieces in there my wife hasn’t seen yet!
With oil painting, everything takes time. The layers need to dry before I can even scan a piece, and even then I can sometimes be a little hesitant to share it. I’ll admit, I have something of a perfectionist streak when it comes to my creations — especially if the work is going to be shown for sale.
But something interesting happens when I revisit older pieces. Quite often, I realise they’re better than I first thought. Cataloguing everything has reminded me that I’m on a journey. It’s good to look back and see where that journey began. I’ve learned something from every single painting, and the growth continues. There is always something new to learn.
Which brings me to something I’m really pleased to share…
This week I’ve created a new book: Oil Painting For Beginners. Find it in my shop.
Not too long ago, that beginner was me. I remember standing at the start, unsure but excited. I wanted to put something together for those who are just beginning their own artistic journey — something encouraging, practical, and honest about the process.
If you’re thinking about starting, or you know someone who is, I hope this will be a helpful companion at the beginning of their creative path. Looking forward to updating you on my painting projects soon.
