The Art Studio
Through The Keyhole With Artist Steve Peachey
Nestled in a small garden in Bishops Stortford is my hand built art studio where creativity flourishes and imagination knows no bounds. It is a single storey box like square crafted from miscellaneous pieces of wood, knocked together after watching some insightful you tube videos. It is modest, small and cosy secured by an ebay purchased conservatory door and solar panels from Amazon - (light and electricity my essential creature comforts).
I love this space, just small enough to work in, not big enough to sleep in, it is the sanctuary where I make most of my art. In the summer the ebay door is open and the summer sun rests on my neck as I paint. In the winter the door is closed unless the cat taps at the door with its paw to be let in. Yes that is my cats secondary water bowl just outside the door. It is crystal, not Lalique., but a magnet for the birds too.
So my goal for this year is not just to make more art but to make the short pathway back to my house just a little less muddy. Perhaps an artistic sprinkling of gravel, perhaps some more strategic flat stones. There is creativity in everything except perhaps muddy footprints - but they are expressive if nothing else.
My unassuming art studio is the place I like to escape the chaos of the outside world and immerse myself in artistic expression. It is the space that just keeps ongiving. A small room filled with outside bird warbling and bursting with imagination’s spirit and of course one or two of my big-foot footprints.
